Celebrating NNPN's 25th Anniversary

A Heartfelt Thank You and An Invitation to Keep the 25 Year Celebration Momentum Going

Dear NNPN Community,

We are immensely grateful to everyone who joined us for the kick-off of our 25th Anniversary celebration at Chicago Dramatists on November 3rd. It was a momentous occasion that not only honored our past 25 years, but also ignited excitement for our future.

L to R: Kristen Vehill (NNPN Board Member and original supporter), Nan Barnett (NNPN Executive Director), David Goldman (NNPN Founder), Scott Vehill (Prop Thtr Co-Founder and NNPN originating Member), and  John Clinton Eisner (NNPN Ambassador and originating member).

Honoring our roots - The event was a poignant reminder of NNPN's humble beginnings. We revisited the very start, with founders and early supporters reminiscing about the pivotal moments that shaped our network. NNPN Founder David Goldman's inspiring story, stemming from his encounter with Paul Peditto’s play 1,001 Afternoons in Chicago, highlighted the “lightbulb moment” that led to the birth of NNPN. Prop Thtr's Co-Founder Scott Vehill's insights further illuminated our journey, as he reflected on a significant trip to the O’Neill that cemented our foundational belief: “We don’t need no stinking badges - new play theaters can do this themselves” - a mantra symbolizing our self-sufficient spirit in promoting new works in theaters across the country.

Celebrating Our Rolling World Premieres - The event also showcased scenes from two recent Rolling World Premieres that rolled through Chicago on their journeys, including Congo Square's production of Inda Craig-Galván's Welcome to Matteson! and Panther Women: An Army for the Revolution by India Nicole Burton, as well as a monologue from Rivendell's upcoming Wipeout by Aurora Real de Asua. These performances were not just entertainment; they were a testament to the vibrant and diverse stories we bring to the stage, thanks to your unwavering support.

A heartfelt thank you to those who donated during the event, responding generously to the match challenge set by founding members David Goldman and Scott Vehill. We we invite those who haven’t yet contributed or could not attend to help us meet this goal. Your donations are crucial in sustaining and growing our efforts in the world of theatre.

We extend our immense gratitude to Christina Perez of Wehpah Cuisine for her generous donation of the sumptuous food that added flavor to our celebration. A huge thank you to Chicago Dramatists, Prop Thtr, Kristen Vehill, Stefan Brun, Olivia Lavina, Jenni Werner, and Cat Painter for their generous time, donations and support in bringing us all together where it all began!

Join Us in Continuing the Legacy

Your presence, whether in person or in spirit, at the kick-off event meant the world to us. As we continue celebrating our 25th year with many more celebrations to come, we encourage you to stay engaged by also sharing your NNPN stories, and consider contributing to the future of the mission. Every bit of support helps us in nurturing and promoting new plays and playwrights. Consider becoming a monthly donor or doubling your donation this year in celebration of 25 more.

With deepest appreciation,
The NNPN Team
