The DC Area Writers' Showcase

The DC Area Writers’ Showcase (DAWS) is a pilot program designed to bring together local writers with some of the country’s most forward-thinking new-play producers.  This two-day staged reading event will allow NNPN’s 26 member theaters to become educated about DC-area writers, and provide DC playwrights the chance to learn about and connect with the theaters most likely to produce their work nation-wide.  DAWS is a unique opportunity for as-of-yet unproduced plays by local writers to be viewed by artistic directors and literary managers from our theaters around the country.  The program will take place alongside the MFA Playwrights Workshop, an event co-sponsored by NNPN and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.

The 2011 DAWS will be hosted by the Kennedy Center July 25-27, 2011.  NNPN will also host a panel discussion about issues metro-area playwrights face entitled "Writing in the Regions."
